Bayer Employees Organize Grassroots Fund-Raising Event for China/Myanmar Victims

Over $14,000 raised in three hours
In two hours, the employees of Bayer’s Berkeley and Richmond sites raised over $14,000 for the victims of the China and Myanmar natural disasters, with every dollar being matched by the Bayer USA Foundation.
Imagine turning on the news to find out that the part of the world where you were born and grew up had just suffered a devastating natural disaster. Your immediate concern might be with your friends and family who still live in the area, but then the reality would soon settle in – how is the local government going to deal with the victims, and what can I possibly do to help from across the globe?
Well, a small number of employees at Bayer’s Berkeley and Richmond sites became inspired by the sights, sounds and scrambled to organize a fundraising event to raise not only money, but awareness of the tragedies in China due to the earthquake and Myanmar as a result of Cyclone Nargis.
Moved by the strong employee interest to support these victims, Bayer Corporation worked diligently with the Bayer USA Foundation to set up the Bayer Corp. China/Myanmar Disaster Relief Fund. In addition, the Bayer USA Foundation will match, dollar-for-dollar, all employee contributions to this fund that are donated by June 12, 2008.
